Laptops Get Metal Thermal Interfaces

Every day we speak to thermal designers and make recommendations for metal thermal interface materials. We know about and have tested other reputable materials for these applications, but still believe that metals are the best option available for most applications.

One of the applications we are most supportive for metal interface materials use is laptop applications in which compressible metal TIMs are popular. Since the maker of my particular laptop had yet to implement such an interface material at the time when my laptop was purchased, I felt that I had better practice what I preach. For this reason, yesterday was spent disassembling laptops and re-assembling them with indium thermal interfaces at the TIM 2, replacing old thermal pads.
