Utica College and My Indium Corporation Internship

  • Hello Everyone,

August 27, 2013 was my first day of college; my first day at Utica College was a day that I will never forget. Just like any kid, I had many emotions, mostly excitement and fear. Excitement, because college was a whole new world with many opportunities. Fear, because college was a change of scenery, many new people that I did not know. A similar day to this was not so long ago. June 1, 2016, my first day as an Indium Corporation college intern.  I had many of the same emotions for the same reasons. One thing I knew for sure was that both Indium Corporation and Utica College would prepare me for great opportunities in the future.

As I have stated in previous blogs, when I arrived to Utica College my goal was to join as many clubs/organizations as possible. I knew that doing this would be very beneficial. I became the vice president and IT coordinator of the National Society of Leadership and Success - Utica Chapter, the treasurer of the Organization of Justice Studies, and a member of both the National Criminal Justice Honor Society and the Cyber Patriots. I also am a member of the Utica College Baseball team. The reason I did this was to build many connections throughout the school and surrounding areas and also obtain experience in many different areas. I would most certainly say that these organizations and clubs made my college experience very enjoyable.

When it comes to the education factor, Utica College is well-known for the program I am enrolled in. This program is Cybersecurity and Information Assurance. As I go into my senior year I would have to say the Cybersecurity program has been an amazing experience. I not only enjoy the classes, but the professors are remarkable. The only thing I found difficult is that, in any college, students do not receive much professional experience. This is exactly where internships come into play. I have learned so much and have had incredible opportunities throughout my three years at UC. One opportunity my education has led me to is my Indium Corporation internship.

Next week will officially be one month since I have started my Indium Corporation internship and I could not be happier. I have learned so much since I’ve been here, but I also realize I have a lot more to learn. I believe so far, my education has prepared me well, but there is nothing like professional experience. From the day I started here, I was doing real information technology work. I have had many challenges but look to learn from them and always improve myself. I work with a great team who is always willing to help me out and I could not be more appreciative.

I wish you all the best,

    Matthew D. Haddad
