  • Hello all! My name is Derek Wenndt and I am the Technical Support Laboratory Intern for the next 9 weeks. I have already completed one week of work, and it has been a great experience. I've been so busy that this past week has flown by and this internship will be over before I know it. Indium Corporation seems like a great company to work at and I truly look forward to the knowledge and experience I will gain from my time here.

I am currently going into my 4th year of the five year co-op program at the Rochester Institute of Technology, majoring in Chemical Engineering. Since RIT has a co-op/internship program, this will be my second internship experience. I previously served as an IR Engineering Intern for II-VI Incorporated near Pittsburgh, working on electro-optic modulators and fiberlaser cutting heads, so this will be quite a new area for me.

I grew up in Rome, NY, and graduated from Rome Free Academy in 2014.  I spend a lot of time watching TV, playing xbox, and following almost every sport I can; my favorite is football. I am a huge Denver Broncos fan, but also follow the Yankees, Boise State Broncos, and the Indiana Pacers. At school, I participate in intramurals such as flag football and basketball.  During the summer, I enjoy spending as much time as I can relaxing in the pool and enjoying the outdoors. I have also been a beekeeper for the past 5 years. Learning about honey bees has been a very interesting topic to me and it is always an adventure whenever we go out to the bees.

I look forward to meeting everyone at Indium Corporation and having a great summer experience. Be on the lookout for more posts from me.
