Customer Visit to Wolfspeed

This summer during my internship, Alex Jensen, Max Feuerman and I were lucky enough to be able to tag along on a customer visit with Wolfspeed in Fayetteville, AR. Wolfspeed is a company that uses our TIM products for some of its power modules. For this trip we would be using the company jet to travel to AR and back, all within a normal work day. When our supervisors first told us about this trip I was shocked at this amazing opportunity, and that they even had to ask us if we wanted to go! It was truly a wonderful experience; especially on the second to last day of our internship. Special thanks and shout out to our supervisors Tim Jensen, Joe Hertline, Seth Homer, Jim McCoy and the other people — who I have not been fortunate enough to meet — who helped set up this trip just in time before our internship came to close.

Earlier in the summer we were tasked with interviewing internal stakeholders about customer feedback and areas to improve. This part alone proved to be a great learning experience because we were able to connect with Indium Corporation workers and facilities all around the world. It was inspiring to speak with so many engineers, managers and a CEO whose positions I hope to attain one day. At the end of this project we were able to compile all of the information, highlight important topics and present it to our supervisors to use in the future after we leave.

The trip to Wolfspeed’s Power Modules Facility was a final cherry on top of this internship and was able to give us even more experience in the industry than I could have hoped for as an intern. We were able to sit down face to face in a meeting with Wolfspeed at their lab. Listening to their discussions about their products, how they are using our products and where they are going in the future showed me how this industry works and how engineers collaboratively problem solve between companies.

“The best part about the trip was being able to meet the people we're selling to. It helps to know that we're not working in a vacuum of product creation, and that we are get input on those who buy from us. They also were happy to answer all of our questions (as interns) and let us join in the meeting. This was the first official business meeting I've ever been a part of.” ~ Max Feuerman (Power Modules Design Analyst Intern)

“The best part of the trip was getting to incorporate our research from our TIM2 project, Using our findings to be able to ask educated questions to customers. Also, being able to tour the facility and see our products being used in another companies facility was really cool.” ~ Alex Jensen (Solders Intern)

This customer visit trip was a wonderful way to end our project because we were able to go visit our customer in person to see how they actually use our products and how we can work collaboratively to improve innovation. It was a great meeting to sit in on with a lot of good discussion and conversation.

All together this trip was an experience I will never forget! I want to thank Indium Corporation and Wolfspeed for letting me go on this customer visit.

Thank you,

Julia Commane
