No, I Don't Own the Carrier Dome

  • My name is Zach Carrier, and I am the Marketing Communications (Marcom) Intern for the summer of 2019. Let me just get this out of the way, no I don’t own the Carrier Dome;  no, I don’t make Carrier Air Conditioners; and no, I don’t work on an aircraft carriers either.  Now that that’s out of the way let me tell you a little bit more about me. I am from Rome, NY and have lived in the area for most of my life.

I attend Rochester Institute of Technology and am entering my senior year where I am pursuing 2 bachelors’ degrees in marketing and business management, and a minor in advertising and public relations. Most people think I’m crazy for having two majors and a minor, but it was easy to do because I started college with a lot of credits  thanks to Mohawk Valley Community College and Rome Free Academy. I love where I go to school because there is always something to do, whether it’s going to a NCAA Division 1 Hockey game, doing volunteer work with my fraternity, or just hanging out in Global Village eating Salsaritas.

Other important things to know about me are that I love sports and music. I follow almost every major sport there is, from golf to hockey to baseball; however there is one sport that holds a special place in my heart-soccer. I have played and watch soccer ever since I was little. My favorite team is Aston Villa, and they play in the English Premier League. They just recently got back there after spending 3 seasons in the 2nd tier of the English Football League (I might have cried tears of joy when they got promoted back up to the EPL). The passion of the fans is what makes me enjoy soccer so much, and I got to experience first-hand last fall. While studying abroad in England, I went to five games, each special in their own way. But, the most important to me was taking the train up to Birmingham, England to sing my heart out at Villa Park in the pouring rain to cheer on Villa, as they drew 5-5 in the most exciting game I’ve ever seen on TV or in person.

I am looking forward to my time at Indium Corporation and the Marcom department. I love the marketing field because you can be creative in whatever way you are most comfortable. You can excel in the type of marketing you like most whether that be design, writing, content creation, or just coming up with crazy ideas that might just work. Even my job at school in the Athletic Communications Department relates to marketing communications. Our department is responsible for recording all the statistics at all RIT Athletics events, keeping fans informed in real time through social media, and producing various content for the teams! My department also writes articles about each game, match, or meet. I am hoping to take what I learn at school, both at work and in the classroom, and apply it to my internship this summer!

    All the Best,

    Zach
