Research Chemist I

Job Responsibilities
- Lead material design, preparation, testing, and characterization while reporting directly to the supervisor.
- Utilize chemistry, metallurgy, and relevant knowledge in a laboratory environment as directed by the supervisor.
- Design and implement DOEโs for targeted upgraded performance, including modifying formulation, material processing, etc.
- Devise and manufacture modifications of materials for upgraded performance under the direction of the supervisor.
- Understand the customer needs by communicating with customers directly.
- Perform testing of material properties and behavior (including mechanical, electrical, thermal, etc.) following well-established standards and procedures.
- Understand and follow electronic industry practices including applications for soldering, sintering, surface mount technology, semiconductor packaging, thermal interface interconnections, etc.
- Design new test vehicles and/or new testing methodology for material development independently.
- Complete data collection and processing of material testing and performance.
- Manage and maintain equipment and consumable lab supplies for routinely used items.
- Document details and procedures for testing of materials, processes, assemblies, and instrumentation.
- Assist the supervisor in developing and delivering manufacturing processes for materials.
- Optimize processing conditions and parameters to enhance material performance.
- Develop and design novel test methodology for more efficient material performance assessment.
- Present research findings, information, and insight internally and externally.
- Follow laboratory compliance and site-specific environmental protection requirements, policies, and procedures.
- Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelorโs degree in technical discipline with 5 years related technical experience required, or a Masterโs degree in technical discipline with 2 years related technical experience required, or a Ph. D. in technical discipline with related technical experience required; Technical discipline defined as chemistry, metallurgy, material science, or engineering.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to write and speak fluently in English.
- Strong computer skills with a focus on data processing
- Experience in safety, quality assurance, and best engineering and laboratory practices.
- Knowledge of Design of Experience (DOE).
- โHands onโ machine operation and test experience.
- Demonstrated ability to complete a wide-variety of assignments in a manufacturing lab environment.
- Ability to read and understand product design and fabrication documentation.
- Ability to document design changes for specifications per standards.
- Ability to work independently with verbal or written instructions.
