May 13, 2022

Indium Corporation President and Chief Operating Officer, Ross Berntson, was inducted by the Manufacturers Association of Central New York (MACNY) into its Manufacturers Wall of Fame during the organization’s 109thAnnual Celebration of Manufacturing on Thursday, May 12 at the SRC Arena and Events Center in Syracuse.

“Manufacturing is an essential business that saved lives and livelihoods during the COVID-19 pandemic and continues to initiate innovation and growth across the globe,” Berntson said. “I am truly honored not only to receive this recognition from MACNY, but also for the opportunity to be a part of the world-changing technologies that are developed right here in Central New York. So, thank you, MACNY, for this esteemed honor and your ongoing support; CNY manufacturers for your many contributions to our local and extended communities; and to all my fellow colleagues at Indium Corporation for your commitment to our shared belief that materials science changes the world.”

MACNY President & CEO Randy Wolken said, “MACNY is thrilled to induct Ross Berntson into the Manufacturers Wall of Fame. As President and Chief Operating Officer for Indium Corporation, Ross has created a work environment that promotes employee ingenuity and creativity, and he is committed to the advancement of technology and product excellence. Ross showed community leadership during the pandemic helping to organize the nationally recognized Keeping People Safe and Factories Running initiative. He is an active community and MACNY member, as well. We congratulate Ross on this well-deserved honor.”

At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Berntson and MACNY were instrumental in establishing the manufacturing pledge which established policies and procedures to keep employees safe while maintaining the operation of essential manufacturing facilities.

The Manufacturers Wall of Fame, MACNY’s highest honor, is bestowed upon a chief executive or top local officer of a successful manufacturing firm who contributes to the economic well-being of his or her company and the overall region.

Berntson is an alumnus of Cornell University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and master’s degrees in business administration and education while also earning the Henny Wittink Memorial Marketing Prize and the George C. Caldwell Prize.  His trajectory at Indium Corporation began in 1996 as a product specialist, and he quickly rose to product manager, followed by marketing leader, sales leader, and tech support leader. Prior to his current role, Berntson served as executive vice president and president of Indium Corporation’s Asia Holdings and lived in Singapore for two years, learning much about the culture and regional business needs and opportunities in Southeast Asia and China. As President and COO, he oversees global sales, marketing, technical support, operations, engineering, human resources, and product R&D. Berntson is a strong proponent of the company’s core belief that materials science changes the world—that almost every great advancement in technology can be attributed to a breakthrough in materials science. He is also an accomplished author and has presented at technical conferences across the globe.
