October 3, 2013
Indium Corporation is celebrating National Manufacturing Day, October 4, 2013, with a variety of activities intended to promote STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education and career opportunities in advanced manufacturing in the Mohawk Valley.
On October 4, Rick Short, Indium Corporation’s Director of Marketing Communications will present, as part of a panel discussion, at SUNYIT on the Resurgence of Manufacturing in New York State. Over 325 local students and business professionals are registered to attend. Also participating on the panel are Sherry DePerno, Advanced Tool; and John Piseck, CTM Corp. Sponsored by the Center for Global Advanced Manufacturing (CGAM), the SUNYIT event also features presentations about the Quad C and Marcy Nano Project, CGAM, and the SMART Initiative.
On October 8, Indium Corporation will provide a tour of their Business Park Drive advanced manufacturing facility to 40 students from Herkimer BOCES. Students will learn about manufacturing activities and processes, and the types of career opportunities available in an advanced technology manufacturing facility.
On October 10, Indium Corporation will kick off its classroom speakers’ bureau. Through Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES and Herkimer BOCES, Indium Corporation will provide classroom speakers to area schools. Speakers will talk to students about the importance of STEM education for careers in advanced manufacturing. Each speaker will focus on the various skill sets that are needed to support a manufacturing facility, and the importance of each to the success of the company and the student. Career discussions will focus on engineering/technology, human resources, marketing/communications, accounting, information technology, and safety/environmental.
National Manufacturing Day is designed to expand a community’s knowledge about, and enhance peoples’ awareness of, manufacturing careers and their value to the local, regional, and national economy.
