Indium Corporation Experts Shared Market Insights at MMTA China Minor Metals Conference

Two Indium Corporation experts shared their industry expertise at the Minor Metals Trade Association (MMTA) China Minor Metals Conference, November 4-5, Hong Kong, China.

Donna Vareha-Walsh, Director, Metals Business Unit, presented Indium Market Developments: An Update. This presentation examined the continued market impact of metals inventory on the Fanya Metal Exchange, which include Ga, Ge, APT, etc., in addition to updates on indium pricing, supply and demand, and global market.

Vareha-Walsh was joined by Indium Corporation’s Shuyan Peng, Strategic Sourcing Buyer, who also participated in the presentation.

The MMTA is the world’s largest association involved with minor metals, according to the organization. Founded in 1973, the MMTA has grown from the seven elements covered at its founding, to include ever-increasing new applications and a total of 49 metals currently covered.  The MMTA works to inform on such issues as legislative and regulatory changes, as well as conveying the concerns and suggestions of the membership to those responsible for setting policy. 

Vareha-Walsh is responsible for the sourcing of critical raw materials, such as indium, gallium, germanium, tin, silver, and other products and services that support Indium Corporation’s manufacturing operations, sales of metals and compound products, as well as reclaim services for Indium Corporation’s Korean operation. She has more than 15 years of metals market experience from numerous roles and responsibilities, including Director of Global Procurement for a global premium alloy company, and Director of Metallurgical Operations and Procurement for a global tungsten-based business. She also has experience in finance as a Business Unit Controller, sales expertise as Director of Sales and New Business Development Manager, and has participated in metals recycling and scrap/reclaim markets. Vareha-Walsh earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Duquesne University and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), holds certificates in leadership development and manufacturing excellence, and has a Lean Green Belt. Donna is on the Board of Directors of the MMTA and is interim Treasurer.

Peng is responsible for sourcing and purchasing raw materials such as indium, gallium, germanium, tin, silver, bismuth, and copper for Indium Corporation’s Chinese facilities. She has a bachelor’s degree in Logistics Management from Dalian Maritime University in Dalian, China and a master’s degree in Operations Research and Supply Chain from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
