One of the most highly demanded applications for 80Au20Sn is semiconductor laser die-attach due to recent advancements that have made lasers an economical option for a multitude of new products. However, a key challenge with semiconductor lasers is thermal management, as these devices generate a significant amount of heat. Indium Corporation Product Specialist Jenny Gallery will present on how to manage heat with AuSn preforms at SPIE Photonics West, Jan. 22-27, San Francisco, Calif., U.S.

Indium Corporation CEO Greg Evans was inducted by the Oneida County History Center into the Richard W. Couper ‘Living Legends’ class of 2021. Evans and his four fellow ‘Living Legends’ were welcomed, alongside five posthumous inductions, into the History Center’s 2021 Historical Hall of Fame class during an awards celebration on Wednesday at Valentino’s Banquet Hall in New Hartford.

Tin whiskers are thinner than a human hair, but these electrically-conductive structures have been known to cause sudden failures and intermittent problems due to their ability to short closely spaced electronic circuits.

On Tuesday, Oct. 19, Indium Corporation’s Ron Lasky, Ph.D., PE, senior technologist, will host a webinar on these crystalline structures of tin at 10 a.m. San Francisco/1 p.m. New York/6 p.m. London/7 p.m. Germany as part of the company’s free webinar program, the InSIDER Series.

Liquid metals can be mysterious to many people as they challenge the mental stereotypes we have about metal. In most cases, liquid metals are too hot to handle due to the elevated temperature needed to transform the metal from a solid to a liquid. Gallium-indium alloys are unique—they remain liquid at room temperature, making them ideal for a number of emerging applications.
