Flux that is pre-applied to solder preforms needs to be both benign enough to not react with the preform at ambient temperatures during long storage periods and aggressive enough to remove stubborn surface oxides when called to do so. I’m not sure what our chemists’ secret is, but they know how to make it work. The Indium Corporation currently offers 8 different fluxes coatings that can be applied to our solder preforms that are all designed in this way, all designed for different specific soldering applications.
