Indium Corporation’s Rick Short to Retire After 40 Years of Service

March 20, 2024

Indium Corporation Corporate Associate Vice President Rick Short is retiring, concluding a distinguished career of 40 years with the global electronics materials manufacturer based in Central New York.

Short joined Indium Corporation in 1984 at a time when the company employed 69 people—today it employs over 1,400 team members across the globe. His first role was as a Technical Support Engineer which launched him into management roles with technical support and inorganic compounds manufacturing programs. During this time, Short was instrumental in managing the early growth of the company's solder paste product line.

After assuming management of Indium Corporation's international sales, Short oversaw the project team that established the company's first manufacturing facility outside of New York State, in Singapore. He then served as Corporate Programs Manager before assuming leadership of the corporate marketing department. It was in this role that Short developed an award-winning international program that showcased Indium Corporation's innovative products and services, clearly establishing the company as a world-class brand. He was among the world's first marketers to leverage the then-emerging internet to reach target audiences. He helped pioneer blogging, video blogging, the commercial use of social media, and content marketing. His work has since been featured in marketing textbooks. Most recently, Short led and grew the company's Environmental Health and Safety team.

"It has been an honor to serve a company that has such integrity, and such a passion for innovation, for 40 years," said Short. "And, the bonus is that I was able to do so while living in the Mohawk Valley."

"For 40 years, Rick has been a constant source of energy for our company. He has used his intelligence and care to challenge us to grow, to evolve, to take advantage of opportunities, and above all to be kind and helpful to each other," said CEO Greg Evans. "Rick truly embodies the Indium Way; Respect, Appreciation, Achievement."

Throughout his career, Short has been a fixture in the Mohawk Valley non-profit community, especially in his advocacy for the region's youth. He serves on the advisory board, membership selection committee, and mentor committee for the Young Scholars Program at Utica University. He is a director of the Midtown Utica Community Center, an advisor for the Utica Somali Bantu Community, an advisor and mentor for OHM BOCES P-TECH, and is also involved with the Community Foundation Cornhill Project. Short looks forward to continuing the community service projects for which he has much passion.
