Indium Corporation Senior Technical Support Engineer Eric Bastow will present his IPC APEX EXPO 2010 and 2011 technical papers as part of IPC’s Summer School webinar series on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, from 10 to 11 a.m. CST (11 a.m. to noon EST).
Eric will present Effects of Flux Residues on Reliability, which discusses the implications of an experiment designed to study the effects of entrapping a no-clean flux residue under a component body or RF shield, as it relates to the surface insulation resistance (SIR) performance of the flux residue.
His second paper, Understanding SIR, discusses the issue of SIR coupon preparation, board cleaning techniques, and how board cleanliness directly affects SIR results. The differences between two of the industry’s most common SIR specifications, the subjective nature of SIR testing on water washable/soluble materials and testing for SIR when the assembly process has multiple residue sources will also be covered.
As a Senior Technical Support Engineer, Eric provides support for Indium’s full range of solder products for the electronics assembly, semiconductor packaging, and thermal management markets.
Eric is an SMTA-certified process engineer (CSMTPE) and is certified as a Six Sigma Green Belt from Dartmouth College’s Thayer School of Engineering. He is also a certified IPC-A-600 and 610D Specialist. Eric has an associate’s degree in Engineering Science from the State University of New York and has authored several technical papers and articles.
Eric has experience in developing new solder paste flux chemistries, performing residual gas analysis of hermetic electronic packages and developing electroless nickel-plating bath chemistries.
